On Sunday, June 25, I boarded a plane and flew 3000 miles from Orlando, FL to Los Angeles, CA. After 8 months of participating in Spotify’s SoundUp program, I was finally going to be able to meet my fellow Sounders and advisors face-to-face. And, I was going alone. Alone! Let me tell you, if you don’t have kids, you cannot imagine how badly this week was needed. To say I was excited would be an understatement.
But, as the scenery below turned from green, to yellow, to brown… I started to get an odd feeling. A nagging sensation at the back of my neck. It was prickling, like static electricity. In fact, on the Lyft ride to the hotel, the sensation began to spread. It went from my neck to my gut. I was sure I was going to throw up.
The thing is, I couldn’t figure out what was triggering me. Sure, it had been a few years since I traveled alone but I love being alone. I’m not afraid of going somewhere new. I wasn’t afraid of leaving my kids. My husband is a wonderful father, and we have the added bonus of having my sister-in-law staying with us this summer, so he would have help from someone the kids adore. What was going on? Fight or flight was kicking in and I had no idea why.
Spoiler, I found out why later that night. After that, things got weird.
